What is Sleep Dentistry?

Known as sleep dentistry or sedation dentistry, it is a form of dental sedation which is administered intravenously and induces a deeply relaxing sleep state. This is normally combined with pain relief during your entire dental procedure. Our qualified anaesthetists are fully qualified to perform this procedure.

Being sedated with sleep dentistry, you will feel very calm and intensely relaxed, completely unaware of the dental treatment being performed. You will experience no pain, discomfort or fear during the course of your treatment and when it’s all over, you will have no memory of the procedure you just had. You will feel as if you simply had a good, deep sleep.

While Sleep Dentistry is a safe sedation technique, a trained medical anaesthetist is present at all times to strictly monitor the sedation process.

Most patients are ready to go home after a short recovery period, normally around an hour after your dental procedure. A responsible adult is required to collect you and accompany you home. We ask that they stay with you for the rest of the day and overnight as the effects of the sedation wear off. You cannot drive after the procedure.

Sedation dentistry is available for a wide range of dental treatments or oral surgical procedures in adults and children. It can be beneficial for individuals with extreme dental phobia or those who suffer from involuntary muscle movements, as well as patients with cognitive disabilities.
